Port Wentworth’s District 1 Councilwoman Gabrielle Nelson Appointed to Lead National League of Cities’ Small Cities Council

PORT WENTWORTH, GA - January 15, 2024

Gabrielle Nelson, Councilwoman, Port Wentworth, GA, has been appointed to Vice Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Small Cities Council. Councilwoman Nelson was elected to a one-year term to develop and guide programs among local elected officials from similar communities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor-Elect David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA

"Being appointed as the Vice Chair of the National League of Cities Small Cities Council opens up new avenues for grant advocacy that directly benefits Port Wentworth! This role empowers me to advocate for federal and state grants that address the specific needs and challenges faced by our community and so many others just like us nationwide,” said Councilwoman Nelson.

As a member of NLC’s Small Cities Council, Councilwoman Gabrielle Nelson will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location that can be replicated across the country.

“Our member councils play an integral role in NLC’s work, bringing local leaders together to share ideas and inform NLC policy about the issues and challenges facing every kind of community in America,” said NLC President Mayor-Elect David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA. “I’m excited to have Councilwoman Nelson lead NLC's Small Cities Council. This year’s council will be led by Chair Jan Arbuckle, Mayor, Grass Valley, CA; Vice Chair Mary Welch, Councilwoman, Grandview, TX; and Vice Chair Gabrielle Nelson, Councilwoman, Port Wentworth, GA.
